Is Europe redeemable?

  Is Europe reedmable?

From Cesaire's text, we gathered that there is not difference between a civilization and colonization. They are infact two sides of the same coin.  European civilization is inconceivable without colonization through which the Europeans also portray the vast majority of the world as primitive and backward.

To say that whether Europe is redeemable or not is a very open ended question which can be interpreted in a number of ways. In my personal opinion, I believe we can view this question in terms of whether Europe can ever undo the damage it did under the cover of colonization. Can it ever reverse the adverse psychological and physical affects of colonization? 

I believe not because according to Europe, there is a dominant worldview shaped by existing ways of looking at and deciphering the world. This worldview does not accommodate those with a different ontology, philosophy, mode of literature, expression and articulation. In addition to this, Europe also perpetuated the idea of a universal being, eradicating all heterogeneity that exists between countries of the world and negating the idea that a human can exist in more than one way.

In my personal opinion, Europe is so self absorbed in its superiority that it can never escape this cycle of ethno-centric way of thinking and can never truly accept other forms of being as equal in nature.

Europe can never escape the idea of the race to development.

Every society can be mapped onto the idea of a jet that is ideal in the process of taking off or has taken off. In other words, according to the European perspective, all of us are on the same journey and this is what you have to do to get to the cruising altitude. To get to this, a country has to undergo modernization. The history of capitalism and Europe is the course of human society in general and everyone has to take the same path.

But the jet also taking off has a location which Europe does not account for and this very ignorance towards the existence of other forms of being and other ways living is what makes Europe indefensible because in my opinion its lack of ability to accept diversity is what will be the reason for its downfall.
